For a century we built systems people had to adapt to. The org chart, the process, the platform, the policy – each asked the human to bend to its shape, and called the bending competence. It worked because the systems were slower than the people inside them. There was time to absorb the friction.
AI did not fix that. It accelerated it. The same default – people adapt to systems – now runs at machine speed and machine volume. The friction that used to be absorbable is produced faster than any organisation can absorb it. Outputs stay intact while the system underneath fragments.
The reversal
At machine speed, the century-old default has to reverse. The system has to adapt to people – because people can no longer adapt fast enough to the system. Coherence architecture is the discipline of building for that reversal, and of measuring whether a given system actually achieves it.

The layer between human awareness and built systems was never constructed – and no continuous, receiver-side instrument reads whether it holds. Outputs hold while systems fragment.
The gap
