We filed.

Five provisional patents on the coherence substrate, lodged with IP Australia, priority date secured 13 May 2026. And seven trade mark applications on the language that names it.

On 31 December 2025 we called it publicly: “2026 is the year coherence becomes advantage.” The field has since caught up.

The reason for filing now is simple: the language is forming faster than the substrate.

The land-grab

Look at who keeps circling the same gap. McKinsey’s The Agentic Organization named the operating-model layer. Its AI Assembly Line: Strategic Imperatives for CEOs (May 2026) systematised the deployment. BCG’s Enterprise as Code rewrote the operating model as executable, auditable instructions. Jakob Nielsen’s Forward Deployed Designers moved design’s centre of gravity to the enterprise control loop. Four publications across McKinsey, BCG and Nielsen. One pattern, and it is unmistakable: each names the layer. None has a coherence measurement substrate beneath it. They name the layer; Divergent Kind fills it.

That substrate is what we have been building, and as of 13 May, have filed provisional patents on.

Where it sits in the stack

Place it in the stack the field is converging on. Layer 1, foundation models. Layer 2, Agent execution: orchestration and tool-calling. Layer 3, Agent infrastructure: identity, memory, observability, the substrate that makes agents durable. Layer 4, Agent governance: the technical constraints on what agents may do. And Layer 5, the one almost no-one is building, organisational coherence. Whether the organisation the agents run inside is structurally coherent enough to hold. That layer is Coherence OS, measured by Qualitative Coherence Indicator™ (QCI).

Layer 5 absorbs two of McKinsey’s five pillars — the operating model, and workforce, people and culture — into one coherence substrate. Because the insight is that these are one layer, not two.

Coherence is not just a word. It needs a measurement engine, an ethical operating system, a cognitive-difference taxonomy, a configured infrastructure layer, and a way to measure whether the human inside the system gains clarity, agency, and coherent action, or just receives more noise.

That human is not a user in Divergent Kind language. They are a participant.

Two application domains. One coherence substrate. Every scale.

The longer pieces follow.

Divergent Kind facilitates conditions for agency and coherence; we do not diagnose, treat, or cure.
